Children of Vice

“Sometimes you need to do bad to do good and worse to do even better”.

The story of Mani di forbice and Belladonna.

JJ McAvoy is a stupidly amazing writer and this book didn’t fail! Like its predecessors, this book will take you on a gruesome journey of crime, love and family!

I can just picture JJ with a smug grin on her face thinking… “Yáll thought I couldn’t do better than Melody and Liam? but I did….”
This book is a trilogy and focuses on the children of Liam and Melody Callahan, Ethan, Wyatt and Donatella. The first book is based on the eldest and the current Ceann na conairte… Ethan Callahan.

As an avid McAvoy reader and a Ruthless fan, I already knew that the Callahan clan were a crazy bunch! You’ll see glimpses of the older family members and see what has become of the Callahan children.

Now let me start off by saying that if you’re looking for a Liam and Melody story? you’re not going to get it. Its Chicago, there’s drugs, blood and treachery but it’s completely different.

“I shall show no mercy; I shall offer no forgiveness; there will be no peace for those who stand against me.”

Ethan Callahan is ruthless, sometimes heartless and always king! Well, what else would you expect from the firstborn of Liam and Melody? Everything he does or says has a purpose and family is always the first priority.  Now that he is 28, he wants to marry and he’s chosen a firecracker!
“I’ve found a wife—”
She’s not exactly Callahan material—and before you ask, I do not know her. She is a tool in a very important game, a tool I need you to secure without a doubt so she’ll be ready by my birthday.”
Ivy O Davoren is a vision in her orange prison overalls and matted blonde hair. Ivy has spent the last seven years in prison. The one thing keeping her sane is her thirst for vengeance on the Callahan family for killing her father. She is determined to avenge her father but her world is turned upside down when an unexpected visitor and she finds out who her father’s killer actually is.
“My pop always said poverty fucks with you… makes you think you can do things you really can’t and start selling your soul for things that are priceless.
This book was so OTT, hilarious and gruesome, I flipping loved it! I love that family was kept at the forefront and the romance was to die for ( I won’t go into any detail as I might spoil it)
The ending did leave me feeling particularly stabby… (Damn you and your palpation causing cliff hangers)
If you love fearless female protagonists and dirty mafia romances… this one is definitely for you.
“You’ll be expected to smile even though you want to scream and say everything is fine even when the sky is on fire… Because that’s what queens do. They make beauty look effortless and fear pointless.”

Fire in you

“I love you because you have this fire in you that you don’t even recognize, but i do. You’re strong and you’re a survivor.”

I love a good friends to lovers story! this one didnt dissapoint and J Lynn once again proved that she is queen of angst and slow burning love novels.

Jillian – Has been in love with Brock since she was a small gal and has been pining over him for the last 7 years. Her existence for these last 7 years has been almost…robotic! She has a 9-5 job which she has no passion for and an obsession for hangbags.

Brock – Tried his hardest to see Jillian as a sister for most of his life as he didnt want to accept the fact that she was special to him… also, he was shit scared of her dad.

One horrible night led them apart and Brock has been trying to get back into Jillians life ever since. Jillian tries to ignore his sudden appearance in her life but is still tormented by her love for him and that fateful night that changed every thing.

The fire in you is the sixth book in J. Lynn’s “wait for you series” and doesn’t disspoint! I however can only give it 3/5 stars as it was good but not great. Lynn dabbled with the angst factor brilliantly in the beginning but it really died down half way through the book and I found myself skimming through from 70% and onwards. Fab chill down or holiday read. Pick this one up if you love romance and friends to lovers stories xx

Beautiful Funeral

A week ago I finally got my lady balls and picked up this book to read. I mean this lady will be the death of me!
Still, I dunno why Jamie felt the need to write a “final” book. Something seems fishy and it feels like there’s another series in the making… I mean there is a whole heck of Maddox grandbabies now.

One of the obvious reasons I didn’t want to read this book is because of the “FUNERAL” part. I knew someone would die and it was a wee bit predictable but there ended up being two deaths and both in one scene. I felt that the first death lacked emotion like they needed more attention to detail because they were an importantish family member.

“I kissed her temple, and we continued through the doors. Our past was now and now was in the past. Just as she’d promised, we were together again, in a moment of no sickness or pain—only love. And when love was real, so was forever.”
Jamie has this unique talent of making you feel everything in her books. And I mean
E V E R Y T H I N G!
All the emotions, pain, angst, love and betrayal. Thank you, Miss McGuire, for writing such an amazing book and not killing Travis (WHOOPS sorry if you haven’t read the book).

“From the moment you become aware of a secret, the inevitable question arises: what price will you pay to keep it?”
Travis & Abby – One too many lies for a functional relationship. I mean you don’t lie like that… ever !
Taylor & Falyn – Shocker they broke up! Temper really does get the better of people
Trevor & Cami – Cami still loves Thomas.. I see why Jamie degraded this character. Cami annoyed me till no end. She was with one brother but still wanting to be consoled for the other brother… woman you are pathetic!
Tyler & Elise – They’re still not there yet I feel but they’re working on it.
Thomas & Liis – I really enjoyed them in this book. I felt all the emotions that Liis was going through and cried.
Despite the chaos brewing within the couples, I absolutely loved reading about their love and the way they held family so close to their hearts. The Maddox family would literally do anything for family. I do admit though, I teared up a few times reading this book and it was a beautiful way to end the beautiful series.
P.S Travis will always hold a special place in my paperback heart

“When love was real, so was forever.”

White Mojo

One thing Joshy and I like doing is drinking heinous amounts of coffee and over stuffing ourselves with food.

A few weeks ago when I went to visit Josh in Melbourne, we tried a few little cafes. I’ll be posting about them in trickles so I dont over blog 😉 Look at the smug boy!

18209570_10206695877154057_2096845066_oI tried a more risky option! Its called the “Signature Crossiant Burger” and let me tell you right now that eel in your crossiant is NEVER a great idea. That’ll teach me for straying away from my usual eggs benedict. SO unless you love weird textures? do not try this one.

One a happier note, the coffee was AMAZING! Definitely reccomend it!

Self love with Dear Zindagi

, , , , , ,

Dear_Zindagi_posterSometimes you feel trapped within the confines of your head and heart. You forget to appreciate and love yourself, keeping emotions so bottled up that when they eventually come out? you cannot contain it and it takes a colossal toll on you.

Dear Zindagi is a Hindi motion picture that follows Kiara a young cinematographer and her battle with abandonment issues and self-love.
The movie begins with Kiara and her life as a young, successful single girl in Mumbai. Her only dream is to be a successful filmmaker and find love. She constantly finds that she is breaking up with her boyfriends as soon as they start exhibiting signs of long term commitment.

She then travels back to her hometown of Goa and hears a mental health seminar and a specific doctor talking about acceptance of one’s self and how we as humans often find it difficult to accept our flaws and love ourselves.9b8fd8d0320a37fc27894b0928cd3652

Kiara hesitantly begins therapy with the Jug (Doctor) and finds herself divulging more than she bargained for. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions and very relatable.
Kiara realises that she has abandonment issues from the past which don’t allow her to form and sustain romantic relationships. She has no issues with making friends but she doesn’t quite trust men when it comes to love. She’s constantly finding issues that aren’t there and nit picking. MV5BZWQzYWI3ZGMtYzgyYy00OWZkLWEwODYtNGNiMTZhODBkNzUyL2ltYWdlL2ltYWdlXkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyNjY1MTg4Mzc@._V1_UY268_CR9,0,182,268_AL_

Jug forces her to dig deeper and understand that it’s okay to feel these emotions but it’s also necessary to talk about them and accept them in order to be able to trust in life again. I’ll stop yapping here because I want you all to give this movie a watch.

Below I’ve listed a few quotes from the movie that have resonated with me and hopefully, some of them touch you as well xx

An epic love triangle between two powerful men and one very lucky girl. Written exquisitely

Greer  (girl next door, shy, well-educated, impressionable, trusting)
“Political princess”, is a very shy-timid-stand back and don’t get attention kind of girl. She did aggravate me in the beginning when she wouldn’t stand up to her snotty cousin Abilene. I mean grow a backbone! Her first kiss went to the president and her virginity went to the vice president, Not too shabby.

“The secret he keeps, the lies he tells.”

Maxen Ashley Colchester (Ash) – (Dominant, ruthless, deviant, enigmatic, heroic)
Is a Lieutenant, war hero and current president. Ash is a submissive girls dream! loves to be in control and takes pleasure in his partners’ submission and to some extent her embarrassment… oh no Bueno!
Not for me but definitely a well-written character.

“You belong to yourself and you belong to me, and I don’t fucking care that it seems to be a contradiction because we both know it isn’t.”

Embry Moore(Prince, secretive, seductive, aloof, reckless)
Comrade to Ash and vice president. I did do the whole, “you should pick Embry!” He is the typically polished bloke who hides scars that helped get him there. He’s very smooth and aloof and definitely my pick out of the two.

“You dropped this,” he said in that sophisticated purr, a purr that belied money and education and privilege. (EMBRY)

Despite being war veterans, this love will be the hardest battle they’ve faced yet… A well written and intriguing love triangle that’ll keep you interested all throughout.

LL gives this one 3 stars xx

La la la lace….

Now some of you will be perplexed by my choice of content.. what on earth is this woman thinking to review lingerie and literature on the same blog?

Well, the unexciting truth is that I have an obsession with lingerie and books! A love triangle if you may. I usually chill out wearing a beautiful negligee, sip on tea and get lost in a paperback that takes me on a journey away from my boxy grey room. On the days I feel more risque. I strap on an exciting three piece with garters to match and strut around in heels like I own the damn world xx

BEHOLD ! I present to you this sassy lassy by Pleasure State. The Natalia Night Shade set is sexy yet very comfortable. The baby pink and navy colours will compliment all skin tones. Now I’m a bigger girl and was hesitant to buy garters as I thought that they would emphasise my lower stomach and be unflattering… BOY WAS I SURPRISED! I highly recommend trying on lingerie sets as you get a better idea of what looks better on your shape. Pair these with nylon tights and a sexy pair of heels, and you’ll feel amazing!

Chasing Passion – Nora Roberts

Convincing Alex
Soap opera writer Bess McNee figured the only way to understand a character was to stand in her shoes — even if they were a streetwalker’s stiletto heels. So she got tossed into the slammer, thanks to the sexiest detective in New York and she decided the detective was absolutely perfect…for her research and for herself. Now all she had to do was convince him she was right…

Wounded Beast – Georgia Le Carre

The first time I met Dominic his magnetic arrogance took my breath away. He was everything I’d never expected to have. A drop dead gorgeous Alpha bad boy.

But it was my job that led me into his path and he hit me like a freight train that I never saw coming. Suddenly this complicated man beast has erased the staleness of my terribly dull life and replaced it with a lust for the excitement, danger and knowledge he brings to my life.

He’s taken me to places emotionally and sexually unimaginable and I’m deliciously addicted.

Everything is perfect, well almost. Except there’s the parts of him that I cannot reach . The parts he keeps locked away…

Sugar Baby Beautiful – JJ McAvoy

Her past is nothing but broken dreams and heartache. Her present is detached and dull. And her future? Well, before meeting Theodore Darcy, the famed film director, writer, producer and CEO of Darcy Entertainment, she would have expected more of the same. So their arrangement is simple: sex with no strings attached.

But as their intimacy becomes more powerful, so do Felicity’s demons. Can Theo really shoulder her past and his own? And could Felicity even let him?

Twenty years ago, America Singer entered the Selection and won the heart of Prince Maxon—and they lived happily ever after. Eadlyn has always found their fairy-tale story romantic, but she has no interest in trying to repeat it. If it were up to her, she’d put off marriage for as long as possible.

Eadlyn doesn’t expect her story to end in romance. But as the competition begins, one entry may just capture Eadlyn’s heart, showing her all the possibilities that lie in front of her . . . and proving that finding her own happily ever after isn’t as impossible as she’s always thought.
