“Sometimes you need to do bad to do good and worse to do even better”.
The story of Mani di forbice and Belladonna.
JJ McAvoy is a stupidly amazing writer and this book didn’t fail! Like its predecessors, this book will take you on a gruesome journey of crime, love and family!
I can just picture JJ with a smug grin on her face thinking… “Yáll thought I couldn’t do better than Melody and Liam? but I did….”
This book is a trilogy and focuses on the children of Liam and Melody Callahan, Ethan, Wyatt and Donatella. The first book is based on the eldest and the current Ceann na conairte… Ethan Callahan.
As an avid McAvoy reader and a Ruthless fan, I already knew that the Callahan clan were a crazy bunch! You’ll see glimpses of the older family members and see what has become of the Callahan children.
Now let me start off by saying that if you’re looking for a Liam and Melody story? you’re not going to get it. Its Chicago, there’s drugs, blood and treachery but it’s completely different.
“I shall show no mercy; I shall offer no forgiveness; there will be no peace for those who stand against me.”
Ethan Callahan is ruthless, sometimes heartless and always king! Well, what else would you expect from the firstborn of Liam and Melody? Everything he does or says has a purpose and family is always the first priority. Now that he is 28, he wants to marry and he’s chosen a firecracker!
“I’ve found a wife—”
She’s not exactly Callahan material—and before you ask, I do not know her. She is a tool in a very important game, a tool I need you to secure without a doubt so she’ll be ready by my birthday.”
Ivy O Davoren is a vision in her orange prison overalls and matted blonde hair. Ivy has spent the last seven years in prison. The one thing keeping her sane is her thirst for vengeance on the Callahan family for killing her father. She is determined to avenge her father but her world is turned upside down when an unexpected visitor and she finds out who her father’s killer actually is.
“My pop always said poverty fucks with you… makes you think you can do things you really can’t and start selling your soul for things that are priceless.”
This book was so OTT, hilarious and gruesome, I flipping loved it! I love that family was kept at the forefront and the romance was to die for ( I won’t go into any detail as I might spoil it)
The ending did leave me feeling particularly stabby… (Damn you and your palpation causing cliff hangers)
If you love fearless female protagonists and dirty mafia romances… this one is definitely for you.
“You’ll be expected to smile even though you want to scream and say everything is fine even when the sky is on fire… Because that’s what queens do. They make beauty look effortless and fear pointless.”
